Competing for Economic Development Dollars

In the first study of its kind, the Public Policy Forum uses U.S. Census Bureau
data to measure the 50 largest metro areas on their ability to attract federal investment
for economic development. To this end, the forum developed a new measure based
on 358 federal programs grouped in five categories of economic development:
1) business assistance, 2) research and development, 3) workforce development,
4) infrastructure improvements, and 5) community development. This unique
measure allows the reader to see, for the first time, who is getting what in federal
economic development funds.
