City of Milwaukee growth outpaces region, state

The city of Milwaukee, whose tax base has been lagging behind the region for
decades, achieved a turnaround in the latest analysis of property values. The city’s
total equalized property value rose nearly 12% to $26.2 billion this year, compared
to 11% for the region as a whole and 9% for the state of Wisconsin. Last year the
city of Milwaukee’s tax base grew 8%; the region, 9%; and the state, 8.5%. This is
one indicator that our region – lead by its largest city – is a key economic driver for
the state.
