Viewpoint Luncheon: How Does Milwaukee's Downtown Measure Up to its Peers?

Elected and private sector leaders are poised to make a once-in-a-generation investment in new arena and streetcar projects in Milwaukee's downtown, setting the stage for economic revitalization but also creating long-term obligations for taxpayers.

How does our downtown currently compare to peer cities when it comes to hospitality, entertainment, and nightlife? How have other cities attempted to strengthen their downtowns, and what can we learn from their efforts? Why is downtown revitalization important and what should be the role of government in supporting it?

National economic development consultant Rob Hunden, presented a report commissioned by the Greater Milwaukee Committee and Milwaukee Downtown, BID that compares Downtown Milwaukee's entertainment and hospitality offerings with those of 10 peer cities.

Then, a panel of local stakeholders provided their take:

Peter Feigin, Milwaukee Bucks
Eve Hall, African American Chamber of Commerce
Rocky Marcoux, Milwaukee Department of City Development
Greg Marcus, Marcus Corporation

Gary Witt, Pabst Theater Group
